Meet Roisin

I’m a Business Mentor, Trainer, Project Manager and mum of 3 growing kids and 1 lively cockapoo.

My passions are business start up, female entrepreneurship and social enterprise.

My mission is to support aspiring or developing entrepreneurs on their business journey.

I love being part of someone’s development, helping to “plant a seed” or to grow an idea.

It’s very rewarding as I meet and connect with so many people, and after the work is done, I get to watch their growth and success, and feel proud to have played a little part.

The big decision

I quit Employment in 2009, after 13 years working for enterprise agencies, 7 of which I was the Manager of East Belfast Enterprise. During that time I lead the development and build of a £3m business centre. City East is now a thriving successful hub for business on the Lower Newtownards Road in close proximity of Belfast city centre.

It’s a big decision to leave a secure job and go out on your own. It was the right decision for my family at the time and I feel my own personal journey makes me a better mentor – as well as working on the business stuff I can identify with all the challenges of getting started and being a mumpreneur!!

One of the original founders of Women in Business

15 years ago I was one of the original founders of Women in Business.

I had been running a programme with female entrepreneurs in the Greater Belfast area and it had just finished. The group said “Roisin we love our meetings, can you support us to keep meeting and invite more women along too?” And so it all began..I found funding, lead the set up of a Board and scheduled regular events.

I was a voluntary Director of Women in Business for 7 years and have worked for the charity since then on a freelance basis delivering programmes of support to startups.

Specialisterne – a social enterprise

Over the years I’ve worked a lot on social enterprise and sat on many Voluntary Boards.

I’ve been supporting Specialisterne NI for 7 years, a social enterprise who help young people and adults with autism improve their job prospects and get into work. I am currently Treasurer and the only original Board member.

I mainly work on

  • business mentoring

  • business training

  • project management

  • grant funding

  • group facilitation

  • business plans

  • strategy

I mainly work through Council programmes or for enterprise agencies or not for profit organisations.

How many of us are sometimes faking it?

How many of us are sometimes faking it?

Imposter Syndrome is a classic condition of any new entrepreneur! Did you know that women are more likely to apply for a job when they meet 100% of the job criteria? Whereas men will more often apply when they meet 60% of the criteria. We all sometimes lack confidence...

Does the name of a business impact its success?

It's not easy naming a business. Recently I've been trying to help some clients come up with the right business name. I remember struggling with this myself and going for Seed Mentoring as I focus on helping develop ideas (plant a seed) and could create the acroynm...

Have you got your Pitch right?

Have you got your pitch right? It's really tricky to say all you want to say and should say in 2 minutes. I helped a few clients recently with this and loved working on their wording, getting their hook or opening lines finetuned, bringing in a bit of drama or emotion...
